Update: Email service is restored, and Websites and other services are in the middle of restoring now. The new server is up and running and the migration appears to be successful. Just waiting for the restore to fully finish, and will then conclude the maintenance window.

The migration of servers is starting. The email server will be offline first, then websites, and other services as they are migrated to the new (much better) servers. If the migration fails, I will revert back to the old server. There will be NO data loss in either situation. Things should be back up in a couple of hours. Please text me if you have any concerns or if any issues after services are declared up again. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

A quick follow-up on this from last week (the 18th of September)… I have worked with the software developer of one of the tools I am using and they have confirmed there was a software bug which was preventing the earlier server migrations from completing successfully. I am waiting for the bug to be fixed, and will re-attempt this migration down the road, likely in mid-late October.

After the migration is completed next month, the performance of your websites and various services will be noticeably improved (especially for websites viewed from mobile devices). I will be sure to provide everyone with notice of that new migration in October when a date is confirmed.

Thank you again for your understanding.

The migration failed and I was unable to resolve it during the maintenance window time frame, so I am backing out now. The previous server is still running and everything has been restored to the original server. I will attempt this again in the near future. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    tl;dr

Migrating from OVH to Vultr, keeping all data in Canada still (Toronto, specifically). This change will lead to improved performance for all clients.

    Why?

Improved performance is the biggest reason. Others include some minor "quality-of-life" improvements as well.

    Expected Impact

There will be intermittent downtime for approximately 1-2 hours, starting after September 17th at 11:45 PM. There will be no missing emails at all, they will just be delayed a little in delivery until after the maintenance window has completed.

    Questions? Concerns?

If there are any concerns with the timing of the maintenance window or if you have any questions at all, please reach out to me via email: dustin@d19.ca
